The first thing to do is to format the SD card and install the Raspbian operating system for your Raspberry Pi.

Installation with NOOBS

Visit https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/noobs/ to learn how to install RaspBian using NOOBS. Be sure to read the software installation guide and video, as this will tell you how to prepare the SD card and get the NOOBS software on it. As I connected the Raspberry Pi to the Internet using an Ethernet cable, I decided to use NOOBS Lite, and download the Raspbian files during installation. If you want to prepare more than one SD card, you might want to save some time by downloading NOOBS with Raspbian included only once.

Installation using Raspbian light

It may also be possible to get a system working based on Raspbian Light ( see https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/raspbian/ ) and only download the necessary software packages, but I didn't try that yet. Any information on this is appreciated !
